What would an alternative future from the viewpoint of the 1970s look like, taking into account the expectations, aesthetics and innovations from that time? This is explored in the animated science fiction movie “Shadow of the Machine”, which takes place in a dystopic “future past”. The film touches upon past, present and future and explores the visible and invisible borders which technology creates around us. The short animated movie takes archive footage from the vaults of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision as an inspiration, but also as a basis for realizing the animation itself.
The plan for this movie was one of the winners of the Image Film Festival/Sound and Vision open call 2021.
In March, 2022, the plan has been selected as part of the ReFresh talent programme for further development.
