SURF Onderwijs-dagen (“Education Days”) is one of the Netherlands’ largest events on education, with presentations, workshops and demo’s. Hundreds of people in the education field go to this event. On 12 and 13 November, 2024, I had the pleasure to attend this event.
Training conversation skills using a VR barrier game
At the end of primary school, students in the Netherlands do not always reach the levels set by the Dutch government in terms of conversation skills. One of the Master-students I supervised at the Open Universiteit tackled this issue.
Museum exhibition Discovery museum
“Why is the sky blue?”, “What is a black hole?”, and “How does a search engine work?” – these are some of the questions which are raised in the exhibition “Zeker Weten?!” (“Are you sure?!”) in the Discovery Museum in Heerlen.

Film plan “Shadow of the Machine” selected for open call Imagine Film Festival / Sound & Vision
For an open call of the Imagine Film Festival and the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision, I created a plan for a short sci-fi animation film Shadow of the Machine. It won the open call.
Featured in RTL Z program
January 2021, I was briefly featured in a TV program of Dutch broadcaster RTL Z. I was interviewed about the Virtual Interiors project and could demonstrate some of the 2D and 3D interfaces we are working on.
Designing 3D search user interfaces in a digital humanities context (2020)
In a short paper for the CHIIR conference 2020, we explored the question of how to design user interfaces for searching and retrieving 3D models in a digital humanities context.
Visualizing a radio of the past using technology of the future
For the Virtual Interiors project, I was embedded at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. In a blogpost on their site, I discuss the creation of an interactive visualization of a historical radio from the 1920s.
Best paper award at DH Benelux 2019
During the Digital Humanities Benelux 2019 conference in Liège, our paper received the best paper award. It looked at novel and visual ways to support scholars’ interpretation of audiovisual sources through temporal content exploration.
PhD defense: Supporting the Complex Dynamics of the Information Seeking Process
On April 18th at 10:00, I defended my PhD thesis at the Agnietenkapel (University of Amsterdam).
Winning team HackaLOD challenge
In February 2018, I joined the DH Lab KNAW team at the fourth HackaLOD challenge. We received the 1st prize with our historical recipe app, Jamie LOD-iver.
