During the EuropeanaTech conference in Vienna (3-5 October, 2011), I worked together with Diego Ceccarelli (ISTI-CNR). The aim of the Hackathon was the creative reuse of Europeana‘s content. Together, we developed and designed a visual query suggestion tool, which allows users of Europeana to refine their search queries, by using log data of searches that have been done in the past.
Using thumbnails, Europeana users could view other relevant searches, and why they are relevant. The application used a combination of HTML5, semantic technologies, and (semantic) data from Europeana, DBpedia, and Freebase. In the end, we won the 2nd prize in the contest.
